CLARKSDALE (NBC33) – Today, Delta Regional Authority Federal Co-Chairman Chris Masingill issued a proclamation in support of National Hurricane Preparedness Week, May 22-28, 2011. This week is recognized as National Hurricane Preparedness Week in order to bring attention to the severe risks, particularly in the DRA region, faced by populations living near the coastline during hurricane season. The states of Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi in the DRA region represent a third of the population most at risk from hurricanes.
“The DRA region has seen more than its share of disasters this spring and shown its resilience in response and recovery efforts,” said Chairman Masingill. “The historic flooding and devastating tornadoes should serve as a reminder that disasters can happen anytime and anywhere. As we move into this year’s hurricane season it’s important to remember to have a disaster plan for our families, businesses and region in the event of a hurricane. With the right planning and preparation, we can safeguard lives, protect property, and enhance America's response to national weather emergencies.”
Hurricane season begins June 1 and runs through November 30. To learn more about this year’s hurricane season, visit the National Hurricane Center. Additional preparedness resources can be found at www.ready.gov.
