BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA) -- There's a new tool out there that some say could keep young people out of jail. As part of the Pinstripes or Prison Stripes Initiative, community leaders have gotten behind the making of an informative DVD.

The DVD, Hard Times, made it's debut today.  It's the story of a young man sentenced to a life in prison after making the wrong decisions. The film was written by prison inmates with firsthand experience on the matter.

Officials believe the DVD will open a dialogue about prison life and perhaps keep young people from making bad choices.

"They get young boys and girls to sit down and go through the video and then begin to learn the lesson that there is no glamour in prison, that when they say 'go to prison for life,' life is literal," says Adell Brown, President of 100 Black Men in Baton Rouge.

Officials hope community organizations and schools will use it as a teaching tool to lower the number of young people committing crimes in the area.
