Port Allen Police Chief's son killed in crash

BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) -- The son of Port Allen Police Chief, Fred Smith, died in a car crash early Sunday morning. The Baton Rouge Police Department confirmed that Trent Smith, a high school senior was killed when he lost control of his car and crashed into the Chevron of Florida Street in Baton Rouge. It happened around 3:00a.m. Sunday.

The crash caused one of the fuel pumps to catch fire. Smith was rescued from the car and transported to a Baton Rouge hospital where he died.
