Former Shreveport official to be sentenced on rape charges today

Richard A."Rick" Seaton Jr., former assistant CAO of Shreveport, will be sentenced in Caddo District Court today, Monday, March 12. In January, Seaton was convicted of forceable rape and abuse of office.

Caddo District Judge Ramona Emanuel, who convicted Seaton in a bench trial that included testimony from witnesses, law enforcement, the victim and Seaton himself, is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Seaton was convicted of the Dec. 27, 2010 forceable rape of an 18-year-old female who was in Shreveport to attend the 2010 Independence Bowl. The rape took place on the sofa in the office of Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover, thus the abuse of office conviction.

Abuse of office is punishable by up to five years in prison, while forceable rape is punishable by up to 40 years in prison at hard labor.
