With Seth Meyers preparing to leave "Saturday Night Live" next February to take over NBC's "Late Night," the long-standing sketch comedy is tapping fresh talent.

In order to ease the transition, particularly on Meyers' staple "Weekend Update" sketch, "SNL's" Lorne Michaels is eyeing Cecily Strong to fill Meyers' empty seat.

According to the New York Times, newcomer Strong, who just completed her first season with the show, will join Meyers as a co-anchor when the late-night program returns September 28.

For now, she'll partner with Meyers as a co-anchor, and potentially step out on her own after he leaves in February. Michaels isn't as firm on that -- he told the NYT that he'd like Meyers to stay on for "Weekend Update" after leaving for "Late Night."

“Cecily, from the first show, was right there,” Michaels said of his choice. “She exploded.”

Meyers, for his part, has been welcoming to his new co-host: "Very excited about the new Weekend Update co-anchor, @cecilybecily!" he posted Sunday night.

Cecily's trying to stay positive: "Lets hope I make it through the first show without barfing or fainting!" she shared.
