Shoppers gave small businesses across the country a big boost Saturday.

Here in Baton Rouge stores such as Circa 1857 open its doors for small business Saturday.

It's a time to support area businesses and local businesses show off what they have to offer. Plus, it's a way for shoppers to cross off a few things on their Christmas shopping list without having to step foot in crowded big box stores.

"There is unique gifts and you are supporting the local community the money stays here," said Annette Manda, supporter of small business Saturday.

"It's wonderful," said Sally Conklin, owner of Circa 1857. "It's very important, because it makes people aware of small businesses, and it makes people want to shop in small businesses."
