Over 70,000 people expected at the 62nd Annual Cortana Kiwanis Christmas Parade

The ‘Cortana Kiwanis Club’s’ Downtown Christmas Parade consists of over 70 floats, bands, specialty vehicles and special guests, and will roll at 5.30 p.m. on Saturday, December 8th, 2012. Again this year’s parade expects to attract over 70,000 attendees. The 2012 Grand Marshal is Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne, with Cinderella as children’s Grand Marshal.

The Battle of the Bands featuring competing local high school marching bands will be held at 4:00 p.m. on River Road in front of the River Center.

NEW IN 2012 - The SANTA FUN RUN - At 5:00 p.m. will include hundreds of people dressed as Santa taking part in the area's first Santa Fun Run / Walk along the parade route! Santa Run registration is open at ChristmasinBR.com.

The 2012 Christmas Parade Route will:

• START from River Road @ River Center
• RIGHT on Convention Street
• LEFT onto Fourth Street
• RIGHT onto Laurel Street
• LEFT onto Sixth Street
• LEFT on North
• Concluding at Lafayette & North

The Cortana Kiwanis Christmas Parade is a fundraiser for the Cortana Kiwanis Club charitable Foundation. This group of local Kiwanis volunteers provide assistance to local families in and around Baton Rouge throughout the year. The Cortana Kiwanis Club and Foundation benefit groups like; Youth Oasis, Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, Children’s Miracle Network, Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic, Northdale Magnet Academy, an array of local Key Clubs and schools, the Hugh O’Brien House and many other worthwhile projects.
