New Roads presents 'Christmas on False River'

The City of New Roads and New Roads Main Street will present its annual downtown Christmas celebration this weekend, beginning with the 29th Annual Holiday Memories Open House on Friday and Saturday, December 7-8, and then “Noel sur la Fausse Riviere,” (Christmas on False River) on Saturday, December8.

The Holiday Memories event will feature shopping, antiques, gifts, unique handmade arts and crafts, restaurant specials, giveaways and special activities. The festivities run from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7, and from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8.

Also, on Saturday, the City of New Roads will host its Christmas on False River celebration. The New Roads Christmas Parade rolls at 10 a.m., with entries from local school organizations, dance teams, bands, businesses, car and motorcycle clubs, decorated trailers and marching groups.

Santa’s Workshop opens immediately after the parade at 11:00 a.m. Children can take photos with Santa until 1:00 p.m. in Town Square. Other family-fun attractions include ice skating, face painting, spacewalks, and a mechanical bull for adults and children ages 4 and up. Food and arts and crafts vendors will be in the City Hall parking lot.
Beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, the city will feature live music performers, carolers and guest choirs including Rocky Jarreau, the Williams Singers, Rising Star Gospel Singers, the Anointed Voice of Deliverance and the St. Alma choir.

A short break will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for the city to host its Tree Lighting Ceremony in Town Square, concluding with more live music from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., as M.J. and the Redeemers present their holiday performance. All activities will take place downtown.

“This celebration is always a great opportunity for families to enjoy the wonderful holiday spirit in our beautiful city,” New Roads Mayor Robert Myer said. “The music, shopping, food and atmosphere are sure to make your holiday outing a special occasion.”
