LIVINGSTON PARISH,LA(NBC33) — More than 150 Livingston Parish Sheriff's deputies played the role of elves on Friday driving all across the parish to hand out gifts to more than 1400 kids.
"It’s great. I couldn't do it myself."
For many on the receiving end, It was the only way their kids would get the toys they so badly wanted with Christmas right around the corner.
"I have a big Christmas tree. I bought it after Christmas last year, but I had nothing to go under it and to be able to receive from the community that's awesome.”
"It's very touching to be able to out here to help these people and to know at the end of the day that we've kind of lessened the burden a little bit on someone's life," states Cpl. Patrick Bedwell.
Bedwell has been part of the "Christmas Crusade for Children" for years, but this time he was on the receiving end of gifts getting cookies and a Christmas card from one very thankful woman.
"Livingston Parish police wishing you Christmas cheer to light up your holidays and brighten up your new year. Thank you for everything you do for everyone else. God bless."
"For her to take time and that may have been something that could have fed her eight-year old son, but she was being selfless and giving to us," states Bedwell.
But it's the deputies' selflessness that was truly on display all across Livingston Parish.
"You helped us when my kids were babies and I sure do thank you."
