Law enforcement targets sex offenders before Halloween

St. Bernard Parish, La (WDSU) — St. Bernard Parish deputies have placed signs on registered sex offenders' doors, as a reminder that those people can not hand out candy to children on Halloween.
Deputies will also fan out across the parish and check at the homes of registered sex offenders to make sure they aren't violating the law. Registered sex offenders are prohibited by from giving out candy or gifts to minors on Halloween.
Both Louisiana and Mississippi both maintain registered sex offender databases.
The Louisiana State Police sex offender registry is offered as a free service to look up sex offenders in your surrounding area for the safety of children.
