Parish leaders, along with other local leaders, took time out today to bring awareness to tomorrow's Thanksgiving dinner at St. Vincent de Paul.

Today marked the third annual turkey carving contest.

Woman's gymnastics coach D.D. Breaux beat out Mayor Kip Holden, District Attorney Hillar Moore and several other community leaders in the carving contest.

The contestants were judged on speed and how good the turkeys looked.

Michael Acaldo of St. Vincent de Paul said he hopes the event gets others in Baton Rouge to help out the less fortunate, especially during the holidays.

"It’s the day before Thanksgiving, and our leaders are coming in to help a great cause,” stated Acaldo. “We're very blessed to have so much support throughout the course of the year."

St. Vincent de Paul expects to hand out between 600 and 700 Thanksgiving meals tomorrow. Serving begins at 11:30 p.m.
