TEXAS (KETK) — A 13-year-old girl from Ben Wheeler took it upon herself to do some good for others this holiday season.
Emily George has big plans that don't stop at just Christmas time either. But it's starting with a simple toy: a stuffed animal.
"Stuffed animals are like your buddy," Emily said. "You can tell them secrets, what you're going through."
Emily and her mother Milissa have bought more than 60 in the past few weeks. But they aren't for Emily though, her friends or her family.
"I just wanted to spread the love of God, so i thought, 'Why not make a brighter holiday for all the kids in the hospital?'"
Emily got the idea back in October.
"I decided (this is) how I could share this love and make them feel like they are loved and cared for," Emily said.
To buy the stuffed animals, she using what she and her mom call their "giving money."
"It's above and beyond our regular tithe money," Milissa said. "It's just money we set aside for giving."
They hope to give as many hospitalized kids in the area a stuffed animal as they possibly can this Christmas.
It's the first project of the ministry Emily is starting up in which she calls "Compassion for Kids."
Emily's hope is to continue to spread the true meaning of Christmas all year long to those who need it most.
"We'll just come up with different ideas throughout the year like clothing items or just toiletries," she said. " ... My hope is that even if it's just one kid, that one kid will receive Christ in their heart and really get to know him and just feel His love."
