Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez announced Wednesday the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center will hold the Professional Roughstock Series (PRS) “Battle in the Bayou” on Saturday, April 12, 2013.

Billed as “the most electrifying 8 seconds in sports,” the PRS “Battle in the Bayou” will feature bareback riding, bull riding and saddle bronc riding. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. followed by the event kick-off at 7 p.m.

“We’re really excited to have the “Battle in the Bayou” event here at Lamar-Dixon,” President Martinez said. “The Professional Roughstock Series make sure people will be on the edge of their seats.”

Headquartered in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, the PRS features top names in bareback riding, saddle bronc riding and bull riding, according to PRS information. Riders are matched up with hand-picked world class animal athletes. The bucking stock is worth over $2 million, according to PRS.

The “Battle in the Bayou” will feature 12 athletes in each event including defending 2012 PRS World Champion Bareback Rider Steven Peebles. Other riders slated to appear include Bareback Points Leader J.R. Vezain, Bull Riding Points Leader McKennon Wimberly and Saddle Bronc Points Leader Eric Wolford.

The twelve riders from each discipline will have one riding opportunity in the first round. The top four scores in each discipline will advance to the “Wrangler Final Four Showdown.” The rider with the highest aggregate score will be crowned the “Battle of the Bayou” Champion.

The Lamar-Dixon Expo Center’s “Battle in the Bayou” is the sixth stop on the nationally televised 2013 PRS Tour.

Lamar-Dixon Expo Center is located at 9039 St. Landry Rd. in Gonzales.
