LA celebrates Fire Prevention Week
BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA) -- It's a big week for firefighters across the state. They're pushing for a heightened awareness of fire safety in Louisiana. It's part of Fire Prevention Week.
Last year, 68 people were killed in house fires in Louisiana. That's a number firefighters want to reduce. They say having a solid escape plan and a smoke detector in every room can help save lives.
However, the best way to stay safe is to stop fires before they've started. State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says people need to be aware of the activities that are potentially dangerous, like smoking in bed or using a faulty heater.
