New Roads Mayor pleads not guilty to racketeering charges
BATON ROUGE (WVLA)--New Roads Mayor Tommy Nelson pleaded not guilty to charges of federal racketeering in court Tuesday morning.
According to the indictment, Nelson is accused of taking cash, football tickets, meals and luxury hotel rooms in exchange for promoting a garbage can cleaning system called "Cifer 5000."
If convicted, Nelson could face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The judge has set a trial date for August 31st.
