New Mexico police have released dash cam video from a Mountainair traffic stop that led to a deadly crash.
The tape shows the police chief Ed Von Kutzleben pulling the suspect over and confronting him about his driver's license.
"Now listen carefully. I'm going to have you get out of your car and put your hands behind your back. If you do anything other than that, I'm going to knock you to the ground and beat you up. understand me," Von Kutzleben is heard saying on the dash cam footage.
The suspect, 31-year-old Paul Sanchez, takes off.
By the time the chief catches up to him, you see a big cloud of dust in the distance where the fatal accident happened.
Before the chase Von Kutzleben learned Sanchez was wanted in Arizona on a kidnapping charge.
When the chief orders him out of the car, Sanchez takes off in his pickup truck.
Von Kutzleben shot out the rear tire of the truck and pursues in his own car.
The chase went through six intersections.
It ended when Sanchez t-boned a car carrying 78-year-old Flora Chavez and her 10-year-old grandson, Chris.
After the crash, you can see witnesses trying to keep Sanchez from running on foot.
He was later tackled by the chief and dragged into the squad car.
By the time paramedics arrive three and a half minutes later, it was too late for Flora and Chris Chavez, who had both died.
State police are investigating the crash.
They say when they finish the accident construction, they will put together a final report.
That report will be given to the district attorney's office which will decide if Chief Von Kutzleben will face any charges.
