A recent survey¹ shows that 32 percent of men and 42 percent of women think healthy eating is expensive. And while it's true that fresh produce may cost more than a fast food burger, you don't always have to pay more to eat better.
Here are four easy ways to improve your diet without spending an extra dime.
1) Switch to whole wheat bread and brown rice. Whole grains like these give you more fiber and make you feel fuller—and they usually cost the same as white bread and rice.
2) Use frozen vegetables. Most veggies are frozen immediately after they're picked, so they're flavorful, full of vitamins, and inexpensive at the same time. Buy frozen corn kernels or peas to throw in a soup or even scramble into your morning eggs.
3) Eat less meat. Meat is probably the most expensive thing on your grocery list. Why not go vegetarian one night a week? You can cut down on calories and saturated fat, especially if you eliminate red meat, and beef up on veggies instead.
4) Stop buying soda. Drinking sugary, carbonated drinks isn't great for your body, and soda is much more expensive than water, which is healthier and...free!
