President Lincoln foils an assassination attempt. He was traveling to D.C. by train for his inauguration and had planned to stop in Baltimore. Chicago Police Detective Allan Pinkerton uncovered the deadly plot and convinced Lincoln to skip his stop in Baltimore and head straight to the Willard Hotel in D.C. where Lincoln stayed until he was sworn in.
