September 5, 1774 - First Continental Congress Convenes

The First Continental Congress convenes. Fifty-five representatives from 12 of the 13 colonies gather in Philadelphia, largely in response to the "Intolerable Acts," a string of laws imposed on the 13 colonies by British Parliament after incidents like the Boston Tea Party. The First Continental Congress passes the Articles of Association, spelling out the colonies' grievances and calling for a boycott of British goods.
