Earlier this year, David D'Aquin and Photojournalist Eric Breaux spent three weeks embedded with the LA National Guard troops of the 165th.  For their efforts, the two journalists were awarded with something only a handful of Louisiana citizens have had the honor of receiving...The Distinguished Civilian Service Medal.

Major General Landreneau, commander of the LA National Guard, presented David and Eric with the award at the NBC33 studios on behalf of the soldiers and airmen of the Louisiana National Guard and their families.  The Distinguished Civilian Service Medal is given to non-military members who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help the security and welfare of Louisiana.

"I never knew how much i appreciated them until they were actually in their shoes, on their turf and having bombs in your direction," said D'Aquin after the ceremony.
