The salmonella outbreak traced to Georgia now has a Texas connection. Health officials say peanut butter made at this plant in Plainview, Texas contains the same type of salmonella blamed for the national outbreak. Both this Texas plant and the one in Georgia were operated by the Peanut Corporation of America, which recently filed for bankruptcy. Officials say the outbreak may have contributed to nine deaths.

A drug used to stop hair loss may also prevent prostate cancer. Experts found healthy men had a nearly 25% lower risk for prostate cancer if they took the drug Propecia. Dangerous cases of the disease were also easier to detect. However, researchers are not saying every man should take the drug. There are side effects like impotence and low libido.

Here’s another reason to reach for the olive oil. Recent research in the journal, “Cell Metabolism,” says extra virgin olive oil may help you feel fuller. When scientists injected the major fatty acid from olive oil directly into the intestines of mice it transformed into a compound that helps send the “full” signal from the gut to the brain. The study’s lead author says the bottom line is fatty acid may help control hunger. There’s more research planned on people. In the meantime, you should be using olive oil anyway, since its protective benefits against heart disease and cancer are already well documented.
