SU Department of Music to hold Faculty Chamber Recital

The Southern University Department of Music will present SU piano instructor Joao Paulo Casarotti in a Chamber Recital at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 2 in the DeBose Recital Hall.

The event is free and open to the public.

Casarotti is a Brazilian pianist and coordinator of piano at Southern. He teaches harmony, piano group classes, applied piano lessons and piano pedagogy.

He has performed with the orchestras in the United States and Brazil, as well as, a solo and chamber pianist in the US, Brazil, Bulgaria, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay. Casarotti has also been the featured performer on the Brazilian National Television show, TV Cultura.

Casarotti plans to return to Brazil in December for two performances of the Beethoven 1st Piano Concerto with the Orquestra Filarmonica Jovem de Piracicaba.

He earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil and Masters of Music in Piano Pedagogy from the University of North Dakota. Casarotti is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance candidate with a minor in Organ Performance at Louisiana State University.

Guest artists for the event include SU professor and baritone Richard Hobson, cellist Pedro Huff and pianist Pitagoras Goncalves, from the Pensacola Christian College.

The program will feature works by Schubert, Debussy, Piazolla and Nazareth.
