“The Smoking Lesson” is an unnerving drama about several young women who spend time underneath a bridge on the Mississippi River, exploring the violent death of their friend years earlier and befriending a mysterious young man who may or may not be responsible for the tragedy. The play tells the story of three very different girls bound together by a dark secret. The girls turn the unfortunate death of their friend, Pearl, into a ritual remembrance. One night, a young man implicated in the tragedy stumbles onto the ritual and the girls find themselves far more fascinated than afraid of him. What he doesn't know is that one of the girls knows more about what happened on the day Pearl died than even he does. “The Smoking Lesson” contains strong language and adult content. Performances of “The Smoking Lesson” will be held at 7:30 p.m. each evening Oct. 18-21 and on Oct. 23. A special 2 p.m. matinee performance will also be held on Oct. 23. Tickets are $10 each, cash only at the door. For information, call the LSU Department of Theatre at 225-578-4174 or visit
