NEW ORLEANS, LA (WGNO) — Looking for a Halloween costume, but not willing to shell out $50, $80, even upwards of $100 on a new one? Vanessa Bolano takes us to a store many flock to this time of year for a bargain.
"All of the college students are in looking for inspiration for what kind of costume they may wear for Halloween," says Roman Witt of Goodwill.
According to a National Retail Federation survey more than 70 percent of Americans will take part in Halloween festivities, and each will spend close to $80 on costumes, candy, and decorations, but those shopping at Goodwill probably won't!
Goodwill's Sabrina Written says, "You're probably going to walk out with mostly everything you need for under $20."
Written says October is Goodwill's busiest month when it comes to sales because of Halloween. About 20 percent of the customers are looking for that perfect costume, but you have to have a lot of creativity to put it together.
"People that come to Goodwill looking for costumes, they already have it in their mind what they want and it's a challenge for them. I mean, they get excited to come in and look for exactly what they want to put their costume together. I mean they'll be in here for like an hour," exclaims Written.
"This is the biggest season that we sell our wedding dresses because everyone seems to want to be a bride," says Witt.
Tomorrow Goodwill is hosting their Ghoulwill Ball at Generations Hall. Proceeds will go to towards their youth mentoring program. It was funded by the Department of Justice, but they lost that funding and are still trying to keep the program afloat.
Tickets to the ball are $100, but we have a discount code you can use online or at the door to get in for $50. It's: YLCYP
