ENTERTAINMENT NEWS (CNN) — Considering what a ratings bonanza those fighting "Hatfields & McCoys" were on the History Channel, it's not surprising that another network is trying to get a piece of that success.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Charlize Theron is working with NBC to develop a more modern version of the infamously feuding families.
Rather than star, the "Snow White and the Huntsman" actress is attached to serve as a producer on the TV project. It's unclear how the story will get a "modern" take, but it's likely a sure bet that viewers would be curious.
When the History Channel aired its TV miniseries at the end of May, it set records. The first night brought in 13.9 million viewers, making it "the No. 1 non-sports telecast in ad-supported cable history," according to the network.
But viewership was only going up from there. By night three, the final installment of "The Hatfields & McCoys" was watched by 14.3 million, beating History Channel's just-made record.
