metairie, LA (WGNO) — Haydel's Bakery is thinking pink this October for Breast Cancer awareness month. For the first time, they've decided to sell pink ribbon king cakes.
"It's a king cake, and when most people think king cake, they think purple, green and gold cakes. With it being breast caner awareness month we decided to make pink cakes," Owner, Dave Haydel said.
These very special cakes look similar to thier world-famous Mardi Gras king cakes, only they are in the shape of a ribbon, and their color is pink.
"We've lost a few employees to breast cancer so the cause is near and dear to our hearts," Haydel said.
From their hearts and into the kitchen, they are making the cakes with love.
"The fact that we're giving back makes them a little extra special," he said.
Haydel's is known for being big on tradition, and now this will be a new one.
"I think this is something we will continue to do every October.
Haydel's will donate $5 from every cake to "The Pink Ribbon Shop" fund for Breast Cancer Research at MD Anderson.
The cakes cost $23 and Haydel's will ship them anywhere. Click here to go to Haydel's website.
