BREAU BRIDGE, LA — Starting Friday and throughout the weekend, thousands will congregate in Breaux Bridge to party with crawfish.
The 2012 Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival is named one of the top ten events in Louisiana by website topeventsusa.com. One of the best features of the festival, located at Parc Hardy in Breaux Bridge, is the entertainment. Thirty of the best Cajun and Zydeco bands will be playing all weekend long on 3 stages. You’ll also find delicious food like crawfish etouffee, fried crawfish, crawfish boudin, crawfish po-boys, crawfish spinach boats, crawfish jambalaya, crawfish pies, eggplant crawfish and shrimp jambalaya. Of course, the boiled crawfish is the main food attraction.
There will be participation contests throughout the weekend with the unique Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival flair. Pick a live crawfish and enter it into a race. Try the crawfish eating contest and beat the record of 55 pounds. Show off your culinary skills at the crawfish etouffee cook-off. Do the Cajun two-step or the Zydeco glide in the festival's dance contests.
On Sunday, the festival parade will roll. The parade highlights local royalty, and local float builders compete for the best float prizes.
For the perfect Crawfish Festival souvenir, you can shop at tee shirt booths and over 75 booths in the arts and crafts and commercial vendors area.
Admission is $5.00 on Friday and Sunday, $10.00 on Saturday or a 3-day pass for $15.00.
The Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Association is a non-profit corporation which has donated well over $250,000.00 in the past 25 years and enables various youth organizations in Breaux Bridge the opportunity to raise much needed funds on festival weekend for their groups. The BBCFA has 25 directors who work throughout the year to organize each festival. The board oversees over 50 committees that are needed to organize the festival with hundreds of volunteers.
