ENTERTAINMENT NEWS (NBC) — "Saturday Night Live" dips into the sports world once again this week for its host.
Eli Manning, quarterback of the Super Bowl champion New York Giants, is hosting.
"My brother did it five years ago. I got to be here in the stands and watch him do that. It's always been something I wanted to do. I just needed for it to be the right time," Manning says.
With that time now at hand, Eli's getting to benefit from his brother Peyton's experience.
"He said it's a lot of fun getting to know the cast members and the writers, and just come
in, it's long hours and it's work and you gotta do something you're not real comfortable with," Manning says.
The Giants quarterback says the writers may have him show off here-to-fore unseen singing and dancing skills.
"He's trusting us, which may turn out to burn him in the end, but so far, he seems to have a
lot of trust in what we're doing," says head writer Seth Myers.
Meyers says the show loves having athletes as host because they're usually unfazed by the live element.
"It's not in any way, shape or form, the most stressful thing they've ever done. As I like to say, at no point this week, will anyone try to sack Eli," he laughs.
Rihanna is this week's musical guest.
Next week, SNL alum Will Ferrell comes back to host, and for the season finale in two weeks, Mick Jagger will host for the first time.
