NBC NATIONAL NEWS — While Louisiana spent the weekend celebrating its 200th birthday, some people in the Florida Keys decided to spend the day in bed.
The "Conch Republic Red Ribbon Bed Race" is billed as "the most fun you can have in bed with your clothes on." Teams raced decorated beds down Duval Street on Saturday, April 28.
It’s part of the Conch Republic Independence celebration, which commemorates the day when the Florida Keys staged secession from the United States after the installation of a border patrol blockade at the top of the island chain.
