The final days of a fundraising campaign proved the most successful. So much so they’ve now exceeded their goal, and there’s still time to raise even more.

The future of the BR Walls Project was hanging by a financial thread last week. The group devoted to installing large murals on the sides of buildings in downtown Baton Rouge was short more than $10,000 from its desired $25,000 goal amount. Because the funds are being raised on Kickstarter, the entire amount raised was in risk if those final contributions were not made.

Kickstarter is an online fundraising site that allows its users to ask for financial contributions to a project goal. The project is given a goal amount and a deadline for completion. If the amount is reached, the project is considered successful and the funds are donated. If not, none of the funds can be received.

In the final days of fundraising the BR Walls Project hit its stride and raised an excess of funding. With a little more than a full day left to go, the group has raised $30,679. The group also landed an unexpected donation from Raising Cane’s founder Todd Graves. On Monday, April 23, he pleadged to match the original fundraising amount, $25,000.

Although the project is safe and has far exceeded its original goal, the fundraising campaign isn’t over yet. In the final hours on Thursday, April 26, the group will host a day-long telethon in the lobby of the Hotel Indigo, located in downtown Baton Rouge.

The group will host a post-telethon party following the event. It will be held at Zolia Bistro at 6:00 p.m.
