A massive art project could be left out to dry in eight days unless an online fundraising goal is met. That’s because the $25,000 goal set on Kickstarter will only be gained if the full amount is reached.

As of Wednesday, April 18, the Baton Rouge Walls Project still has a little over $10,000 left to go before reaching that magic number.

The Baton Rouge Walls Project is an ambitious art initiative that hopes to create large murals on walls in the downtown area. The money they need to raise will be used to pay the artists who will be selected by jury to complete the works.

“Too many times artists are asked to do these massive projects and they’re only offered exposure, not payment,” Kathryn Thorpe, one of the co-organizers of the BR Walls Project, explained. “We’re trying to make sure that doesn’t happen with this project.”

The Baton Rouge Gallery partnered with the group and the fundraising campaign as a way of offering a tax break to those who make substantial donations through the Kickstarter account.

However, Kickstarter only credits the account of those who donate if the project goal is met. If they fall short even one dollar from the project goal amount, they will not get a dime of those funds and will be forced to start over.
