NBC NATIONAL NEWS — For Kate Winslet, seeing "Titanic" again is like watching an old home movie.
The careers of Winslet and co-star Leonardo DiCaprio were suddenly and forever changed back in 1997.
The film not only set the all-time box office record at the time, but also won eleven Oscars including best picture and best director for James Cameron.
Now, with the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the luxury ocean liner fast approaching, Cameron is inviting moviegoers to revisit those emotions.
Filmmakers have spent more than a year converting "Titanic" into 3D.
It's a process Cameron touted two years ago even as he promoted his new box office champ, "Avatar".
The results get thumbs up from Entertainment Weekly's Thom Geier.
"I have to say, the 3D conversion is pretty spectacular," said Geier. "It really works."
And the movie's return gives Winslet a chance to introduce her young children to mom's biggest hit.
"God knows what they'll think," said Winslet. "They'll probably just be really embarrassed."
