SHREVEPORT, LA (KTAL) — A rising name in the fashion world now calls Shreveport home. However, Jane Ryder is making a splash around the world as one of 33 hat designers to be featured in two British publications.
It's a hard road, the fashion business, but Ryder is finally seeing what can happen if you don't give up.
"I've been doing this for ten years and it's just plodded along," said Ryder.
Until she heard from "U.K. Vogue."
"They came to me by email and I actually didn't read it because I thought they were trying to get a subscription," said Ryder.
Ultimately, she did read it. They asked her to be one of their featured hat-makers in their April issue.
"There's only 33 in there and I'm the only one outside the UK," said Ryder.
Shreveport photographer, Steven Miramontz, is along for the ride.
"She gives me her hats and says go with it. She gives me complete creative control," said Miramontz.
He took the picture vogue decided to go with in the spread. It's only just beginning because another U.K. publication, Tattler, will soon feature Jane's designs.
"The sister magazine to Vogue, the oldest magazine in Britain," said Ryder.
Miramontz is taking pictures of Shannon Oldenburg in her Oscar dress.
"She'll be featured in Tattler and getting great pictures of her," said Ryder.
Jane's customers' say it's not just the uniqueness of her fascinators, but the glam-factor that's behind her recent successes.
"I got tons of compliments. I fell in love with it the minute I got to see it in the mirror," said Latonia Barto, client.
Barto and Astrid Brown proudly modeled their Jane Ryder originals for the camera.
"I like her hats because they're very dramatic," said Brown.
The Magnet High School senior has big plans for her fascinator.
"I'm going to be wearing this hat to Magnet's prom," said Brown.
