Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The LSU Student Union Art Advisory Committee is pleased to announce a new exhibit, “Defining/Defying the Figure: Figurative Art of Baton Rouge,” which will be on display from April 22 through May 20 in the LSU Student Union Art Gallery. An opening reception will take place on Sunday, April 22, from 2-4 p.m. in the gallery. All UnionArt Gallery exhibits are free and open to the public.
The exhibit will feature artists who have worked in the Baton Rouge area, focusing on their varying uses and interpretations of the human figure. The primary juxtaposition will be between those artists who define the figure, and those who defy it; between artists who describe the figure more traditionally, and those who challenge modes of figural representation.
The show will feature artwork from Mary Claire Delony, Lisa diStefano, Diane Hanson, Robert Hausey, Katie Knoeringer, Emily LaCour, Demond Matsuo and Edward Pramuk, among others.
The exhibit includes a documentary to highlight the pieces in the show. The Digital Art and Design Association, or DigitalADA, and the LSU School of Art produced the documentary, which will premiere at the opening reception on April 22 at 3 p.m.
