Louisiana Marathon to combine activity with social events

BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Get ready, set, run! The Louisiana Marathon will kick off its first annual event this weekend in the Red Stick. The weekend is expected to draw over 5,000 runners to participate in four races, an expo, and finish festival.
The multi-race event hopes to bring a unique experience for those involved in the running culture. It will begin on Saturday, Jan. 14 with the Cypress 5K Challenge that’s open to walkers, joggers and sprinters. That same day will also be a run that’s open to kids ages 4-12 called the Roketkidz Marathon.
On Saturday evening, nationally-recognized running speaker Jeff Galloway and Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne will preside at the Louisiana Marathon’s Pasta Dinner.
The following day thousands of runners are expected to show at the starting point of the highlight race. The 26.2 mile race going to start out at the State Capitol at 7:00 a.m. At the same time a 13.1 mile race will begin as well.
Closing out the festivities will be the Finish Festival, which will include local food and music.
The winner of the Marathon will gain prizes valued at $40,000 and a medal presented by Lt. Gov. Dardenne.
