BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC33) — Anthony Evans won over “The Voice” judge and pop star Christina Aguilera. She chose him during the blind auditions to be on her team. But she let him go after the battle round.
"She emailed me right after the battle and just encouraged me,” said Evans. “She's a very sweet woman and I know, we know the woman, the very big personality but she's a very sweet woman who said you did great and you have no idea how hard that was for me."
Evans exit from the voice allows him to get back to his first love; leading worship all over the country. The Dallas, Texas native takes center stage at Healing Place Church in Baton Rouge on Sunday.
"I've had to watch the way I communicate cause I'm very much inside the four church walls which is great but I've spent so much time there and not a lot of time outside of it that people are like what are you talking about," said Evans.
Evans, being a Christian and son of prominent evangelical preacher Dr. Tony Evans, knew he would stay true to his faith , even on the national stage. And to his surprise, Aguilera encouraged him to stay to the course as well.
"I'm going to be honest about that and be bold about my stance now. So her speaking to me that way I was like the is crazy. I'm explaining to you who I am and she's like great be that. If you're going to be it, be it."
And be 'it', he is; whether it's singing with a worship team or performing on one of the biggest secular singing competitions in the nation. Now he's just trusting God for his next move on his musical journey.

"It made me think Anthony you've got to, whether it be your faith or the way you’re going to operate in life. You've got to think outside of the box. It's ok and it's achievable to be this is achievable cause I just sat on my couch with some friends and said I'm going to try something different"
