St. Patrick’s Day has its beginnings in the Emerald Isles of Ireland. It celebrates the life and death of the nation’s patron saint, Saint Patrick.

Saint Patrick was brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16. He escape captivity, but came back to the country and is credited for bring Christianity to Ireland.

After his death (said to be March 17, 461), the mythology surrounding him became greatly ingrain in the Irish culture. He is credited for explaining the Holy Trinity to the people using the familiar clover, the shamrock.

The holiday is observed by many Catholics and Protestants as a religious holiday and they go to church in the morning and celebrate after.
