Twi-hard fans camp out ahead of 'Breaking Dawn' premier
NBC NATIONAL NEWS — It was filmed in Louisiana, and now for fans better known as Twi-hards the beginning of the end of the Twilight Saga has stirred enough fervor nationwide to sell out more than 2,500 screenings in advance.
Part one of "Breaking Dawn" is widely expected to rake in at least $130 million
domestically by late Sunday.
That's still not enough to beat the $169 million hauled in by the "Harry Potter" finale this past summer, but, better than that film's first part, which opened almost a year ago.
"Most big franchises are driven by 18-24 year old males. The Twilight series, which has had some of the biggest single day box offices, have been driven by that female audience," notes Hollywood.com's Paul Dergerabedian.
Many of those film goers have read the series of "twilight" books by Stephanie Meyer.
They already know how the story will eventually end for brooding vampire Edward, his mortal bride Bella and an often shirtless werewolf Jacob.
The first three "Twilight" films earned more than $600 million worldwide.
It all ends next November, with part two of the "Breaking Dawn" finale.
