Education leaders call for reform

Today on NBC33 at 5, we told you we'd have an extended interview with Black Alliance for Educational Options Chair, Kevin Chavous, who says Louisiana schools are in need of some reform.

Chavous says students in Louisiana aren't getting the education they deserve. He says the state, and many southern schools in general, face some of the worst education deficits in the country. Students' performance levels are far below the national average, according to education leaders.

They believe Louisiana schools need to offer more options and opportunities for students. That could be everything from better technology to taking a different approach to the system.
