BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA) -- Students in East Baton Rouge Parish public schools will soon be protected from the flu and they don't even have to leave campus. That's because the public school system is bringing the flu vaccine into classrooms across the capitol city.

Students at Dufrocq, South Blvd, Greenbriar and Westminister schools received the first round of nasal mist vaccines today. Nursing students and "Health Centers in Schools" volunteers will visit all education centers in the system over the next month. They expect to vaccinate around 13,000 students by mid December. Only children with written permission from their parent or guardian can receive the vaccine. Attached is a calendar of schools with scheduled vaccine programs.

The school vaccine program was made possible by a partnership between school, state and healthcare leaders in Louisiana.
