Livingston Parish, La (NBC33) — There's a new parish president in Livingston. Newcomer, Layton Ricks, unseated two-term incumbent, Mike Grimmer, Saturday night with 56% of the vote.
Ricks ran a campaign, promising to work towards a better relationship with the parish council. Other top priorities include taking care of the roads, running a financial audit of the parish' fundes, and keeping an open door policy for everyone in the area.
The days leading up to the election became pretty heated between the two candidates. Ricks says that may have helped him in the polls.
"Well, what it did was I think it fired up our vote. We ran a positive campaign. We did want to have any mudslinging going on, so I think the more of that that started, the more people realized I was not going to do that. I would not do that, and they got fired up to vote, so in that respect, I think it did have an impact," Ricks says.
Ricks will officially become the new parish president at the beginning of January.
