Suspect for shooting on Byron Street found

THIS IS AN NBC33 UPDATE: Johnny Ray Blakes, 27, surrendered to police earlier today for the shooting death of Rochel Christal, 25.

Blakes, Christal's ex-boyfriend, forced his way into Christal's home on Feb. 28. and shot her multiple times.

Christal died at the scene.

Blakes has been charged with First Degree Murder, Attempt First Degree Murder and Illegal Use of a Dangerous Weapon. 

This is an NBC33 News update: The victim of the shooting on Byron Street has been identified as Rochel Christal, 25, of Baton Rouge. No motive or suspects are available at this time.

BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) -- Around 3 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, BRPD officers responded to a shooting at 5819 Byron street. On arrival they located a man inside the resident shot multiple times. A female was also found deceased on scene.

Officers learned that the female was shot after the front resident door was kicked in by a suspect. Homicide Detectives were notified and responded to the scene taking over the investigation.
