A STALEMATE IN THE BUDGET BATTLE
BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) – One of the first steps to balancing Louisiana’s budget hit a snag on the floor of the House of Representatives today.
The House could not agree on an amendment that deals with one time money for the Department of Health and Hospitals. Because of this, they could not begin discussing Jim Fannin’s House Bill one that seeks to close Louisiana’s one point six billion dollar budget deficit.
Republican Brett Geymann explained to NBC33 what he believes the next step is going to be to balance Louisiana’s budget, “I assume we will go back to the Appropriations Committee. We will look at House Bill One again and we will try to come up with an amendment that might work, get that bill back out of committee and come back on the floor with it.” Geymann went on to say that another option is to have both sides negotiate to try and figure out a middle ground and then bring the amendment back to the House floor for a vote.
