Baton Rouge is getting a new high school this fall. The Career Academy will open as a charter school August 10th.

The school charts a unique course for each student, based on their future goals. They can study subjects ranging from culinary arts to mechanics. It's a plan the school's principal hopes will keep kids engaged, and in school.

"Hope, with a career, a job, a way to be productive that I can combat some of the reasons some of our kids fall on the way side and drop out of school so early," says Pamela Mackie, principal Career Academy.

Students will have immediate access to mentors, job shadowing and internships. Mackie says that creates constant examples of what a student's life can be like, if they stay in school.
