A black mix terrier was recovering after Animal Services removed an overly tight chained collar. Officers say the chain was so tight around the dog's neck that the skin began growing around it causing severe injury.

The dog was found on May 13th as officers were responding to a call that several dogs were running loose at mobile home park located on Vulcan.

A reminder to pet owners, it is very important to routinely check and if necessary loosen your pet’s collar. If it’s too tight, the collar can pierce the skin causing it to grow around the collar. This can lead to an infection and/or injury. A tight collar around an animal’s neck is also a form of animal cruelty, which can lead to criminal charges.

Animal Services discourages the public from using chains as pet collars.
