Tyler, TX — A Red Springs firefighter was saving his own house in sand flat, Sunday evening.
While the flames were put-out quickly, it was the tiny lives inside that garnered most of the firefighters' attention.
The house caught fire on County Road 313 near Winona, due to a curling iron that had been left on.
When crews arrived at the scene they contained the fire within eight minutes. But when the fire was put out, the job still wasn't done.
One mother cat, and her five kittens were trapped inside the smoky house.
The crews began to administer CPR, and used oxygen to revive the kittens, slightly blowing on their faces to get some clean air into their tiny lungs.
In the end the mother cat was saved, along with four of her babies.
But the volunteers on scene did not want any extra credit, because strength and endurance help, but there's more than that, to being a volunteer firefighter.
