ELMER'S ISLAND, LA (WDSU) — The federal government says somebody shot and killed a bottlenose dolphin found dead over the weekend on Elmer's Island - and there's a reward for information about whoever did it.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society is offering a $1,500 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or people who shot the dolphin.
Its body was found Saturday on the island, which is next to Grand Isle.
NOAA Fisheries said Tuesday that the dolphin was shot on the right side just behind its blowhole, and the bullet was found in its lung.
It says tips can be left anonymously on the NOAA Enforcement Hotline at 1-800-853-1964.
