BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — It was all about the pets today at St. Luke's Episcopal church and school. Parents ands kids enjoying the morning with their hamsters, puppies, snakes, you name it.
Every kind of pet was out on the church's front lawn. Priests from across the city came out to bless each and every pet.
For the past 25 years the church has been celebrating St. Francis of Assisi feast day with the blessing of the pets. One mom tells us its something her family looks forward to every year.
“Oh, we were so excited we had trouble sleeping last night,” Becky Nictakis said. “We had Fritz all ready. It doesn't look like it, but he's been brushed. This is the best he's looked at 15. I think all these blessings are paying off for him."
The head of the school says the annual event gets bigger every year. 363 students participate in the event, even if they don't have pets - kids bring in a stuffed animal.
