Adult cats that have been abandoned in Baton Rouge are finding a new home with senior citizens. For the next month, senior citizens will get the chance to gain a new friend for free.

NBC33 News tagged along this morning with Lori Darensbourg of the Northside Humane Society as she brought Grace Block a special furry friend. The hope of the program is to provide companionship for the elderly, while also finding homes for adult cats that are often over looked.

"You've got something that loves you, depends on you, and will give love back to you. And all they ask for in return is love," Block said with the purring cat sitting on her lap.

All cats are vaccinated and spayed or neutered. If you would like to provide care for an adult cat, contact Lori Darensbourg at (225) 964-6992 or by email
