A Wheaten Terrier has a second chance at life thanks to an animal rescue group. A member found the dog dumped in a trash bag in the Goodwood area and left for dead over a week ago. Now the group needs your help to find out who owned ”Wilbur the dog"

"In a couple of minutes he would have been in the trash truck,” said Andrea Lafaver, with SOS Rescue. “He would have spent his last minutes gasping for air before he died and that's hard to watch."

When an animal rescue group worker found Wilbur he was only moments away from death.

"Something just set with her that something wasn't right and she actually went over to check to see if he was still breathing," said Lafaver.

Lafaver says the worker brought Wilber in and he was covered in fleas. His skin raw and inflamed.

Lafaver took the dog to a vet and later a specialist. Wilbur suffers from an advance form of KCS, basically, cronic dry eye for dogs. His ear canals were also shut and in need of medication.

Right now Wilbur is in a foster home, and getting the affection he needs.

SOS Rescue officials say soon they hope someone will give Wilbur a forever home and the attention he deserves.

"He did belong to somebody this is not a dog that has been wondering the streets,” said Lafaver. “We believe he was probably tied up in the back and just left to his own devices wit no attention to his skin or anything else. "

Lafaver says backyard breeding could be to blame for what happened to Wilbur.

“A lot of time your breeders like that are not reputable will simply use these animals for breeding for studding to get money from the puppies,” said Lafaver. “They leave these animals in poor conditions in the process for years.”

Backyard breeders often only get stopped if someone reports the abuse.
